Topic: Getting the Characters Right Topic: From the Fire into the Frying Pan: Raising Stakes in Your Novel 

Amy Goldman Koss says she has been writing books for so long some of them are old enough to drive and vote.  She writes middle grade, teen and young adult fiction about friends and enemies, school, family and life. Her titles include The Girls, Side Effects, Poison Ivy and The Cheat. Amy also writes non-fiction for adults. Read all about Amy at





Russian-American artist and novelist Eugene Yelchin received the Tomie DePaola Illustration Award in 2006. In 2010 his illustrations for The Rooster Prince of Breslov received a National Jewish Book Award. In 2012, Won Ton, A Cat Tale Told in Haiku, which he illustrated, received close to fifty awards. Breaking Stalin’s Nose, a middle grade novel he wrote and illustrated received a Newbery Honor. His 2017 novel The Haunting of Falcon House received an SCBWI Golden Kite Award for middle grade fiction. Learn more at
